Till 30th June 2020, the TN state government has announced that the lock down would be extended in various containment zones across Tamil Nadu. There would be partial opening of public transport plus more employees would be allowed at the work places. These would be tandem with the Centres lock down 5.0 guidelines issued couple of days back.
The restrictions would still be there in many places and steps would be taken for the revival of the state economy. This was brought to light by the chief minister of TN, Mr. E. Palaniswami on Sunday.
He expressed happiness regarding the fatality rate due to Corona virus being low in TN. He added that the number of persons getting cured of Covid-19 and getting discharged from the hospitals has been the highest in India. Industries and private enterprises outside the limits of GCC could operate with 100 percent employees and workers. This has been as per the new norms. There would be public transport in TN with 50 % fleet strength and with 60% occupancy.
It must be noted that 37 districts of TN has been divided to 8 zones. Buses would not be operated inside the Greater Chennai police limits (zone 8), Tiruvallur, Chengalpet, Kancheepuram (zone 7) etc.
- Zone I - Coimbatore, Nilgiri, Erode, Tirupur, Karur, Salem, and Namakkal
- Zone II - Dharmapuri, Vellore, Tirupathur, Ranippettai, and Krishnagiri
- Zone III - Villupuram, Thiruvannamalai, Cuddalore, and Kallakurichi
- Zone IV - Nagappattinam, Thiruvarur, Thanjavur, Thiruchirappalli, Ariyalur, Perambalur, and Pudhukkottai
- Zone V - Dindigul, Madurai, Theni, Virudhunagar, Sivagangai, and Ramanathapuram
- Zone VI - Thoorhukkudi, Thirunelveli, Kanyakumari, and Thenkasi
- Zone VII - Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur, and Chengalpattu
- Zone VIII - Chennai (All sections under Police Jurisdiction)
From 8th June onwards, restaurants could resume their operations in TN but with just 50 percent occupancy. Till 30th June, all the religious places would be closed. It is important to note that cabs, autos, taxis etc could operate in TN including Chennai with restrictions on the number of passengers.
Except Chennai and its neighboring districts, buses belonging to state run corporations and private operators would begin their services across TN. Point is there would be no change in the bus fares and the public need not apply for e-passes to travel in the buses.
E-pass system
- All categories of vehicles are allowed to operate as per the table above. Within the specified zone, E-pass is NOT required.
- For travel to other states, and to visit Tamil Nadu from other states, and to travel between the 8 zones in Tamil Nadu as specified above, the e-pass system will continue as at present!
