Avani Muhurtham 2026: Chennai Omni Bus Fares Surge Ahead of Auspicious Day

Omni bus fares from Chennai to southern Tamil Nadu districts have increased sharply ahead of the first auspicious Muhurtham day of the Tamil month of Avani. With a large number of passengers travelling to their hometowns for weddings and other family functions, buses to the southern districts are witnessing heavy demand.

Fares on popular routes connecting Chennai with Tirunelveli, Nagercoil, Kanyakumari, Madurai and Thoothukudi have reportedly increased significantly.

The Chennai–Tirunelveli omni bus fare, which was around ₹1,500, has now increased to nearly ₹3,700. Similarly, the Chennai–Nagercoil omni bus fare has risen to around ₹3,600.

The surge in fares comes as passenger demand increases ahead of the Avani Muhurtham day. Many people are travelling from Chennai to their native districts to attend weddings and other auspicious family events.

With tickets in high demand on major southern routes, passengers are advised to check fares and availability before making their travel plans.
