Launching of 135 e-buses including 55 a/c buses in Chennai - Things to know!!
Chennai MTC commuters especially those who frequently travel on the IT corridor or OMR in Chennai would feel delighted with this fantastic piece of information.
Just about a month ago, as many as 120 electric buses or e-buses were launched from the Vyasarpadi bus depot and it grabbed the attention of many. Now, Chennai would roll out additional 135 e-buses that included as many as 55 air-conditioned buses.
It is now brought out that the new fleet of buses would operate from the newly upgraded Perumbakkam depot and it would cover OMR.
Important routes these e-buses would cover in Chennai are Siruseri to Airport MAA2, CMBT to Kilambakkam 570, Broadway to Kelambakkam 102, T. Nagar to Thiruporur 19, Thiruvanmiyur to Kilambakkam 95X and Kilambakkam to Sholinganallur 555S.
As per the GM of MTC Mr. Nedunchezhiyan the new electric buses would meet the demands of the IT corridor commuters in Chennai.
It is noteworthy that this would be Chennais first batch of air-conditioned electric buses. Mr. T. Prabhushankar, MD of MTC spoke about how the non a/c e-buses would follow the deluxe fare and a/c buses would follow the regular a/c buses fare. Point is that these electric buses were set up by OHM Global Mobility which is a subsidiary of Ashok Leyland. There are 4 CCTV cameras, wheelchair ramps, reserved seats for senior persons and differently able, stop request buttons etc in each of these buses.
