The first year engineering students belonging to Anna University would have additional subjects to study from this academic year onwards.
These students must compulsorily study foreign language plus life skills and career oriented courses. This was announced by the Guindy based Anna University or AU. Recently, the AU academic council has approved the academic regulations for BE and B. Tech degree courses in 3000 affiliated colleges belonging to AU.
Autonomous colleges have been offering foreign languages courses for the students and now AU has made the foreign language course compulsory for its newly joined students. Point is that the foreign language and skills and career oriented courses would be implemented from the current academic year for the first 2 semesters.
In this current academic year every engineering student must compulsorily study atleast one foreign language like German, Dutch and Japanese and Korean etc in their second semester. According to the new regulations, life skill courses such as patent filing, industrial safety regulations, welding processes and electronic components in the first 2 semesters of BE and B. Tech degree courses.
The AU affiliated colleges would be able to offer 2 vocational courses based on the new regulations. It was informed that these courses would be credit based courses with 15 hours of teaching per semester. As per the new regulations, the engineering colleges can provide skill development courses under the TN government`s Naan Mudhalvan scheme for the students studying 3rd to 5th semesters. Point is that the students can pursue any online course.
