In view of the Pongal festival rush, the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation has announced the operation of special buses across Tamil Nadu starting January 9 to January 14, 2026.
Along with the regular 2,092 daily services from Chennai, a total of 10,245 special buses will be operated over six days. Including services from other districts, 34,087 buses will run statewide to facilitate smooth travel for passengers.
Pongal Special Bus Services from Chennai (Jan 9–14, 2026)
1. Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus (KCBT) – Mofussil Services
Buses will operate to:
- Puducherry, Cuddalore, Chidambaram
- Trichy, Madurai, Thoothukudi
- Tenkasi, Tirunelveli
- Salem, Coimbatore
- Kumbakonam, Thanjavur
City buses (MTC) from KCBT:
Vandavasi, Polur, Tiruvannamalai routes
2. Dr. M.G.R. Bus Terminus
Buses towards:
- East Coast Road (ECR)
- Kanchipuram, Vellore
- Bengaluru, Tiruttani
3. Madhavaram New Bus Terminus
Buses towards:
- Ponneri, Uthukkottai
- Andhra Pradesh routes
- Regular services to Trichy, Salem, Kumbakonam, Tiruvannamalai
