Tamil Nadu Ration Card eKYC Special Camps on August 8 & 9

The Tamil Nadu government has announced special eKYC camps for ration card holders on August 8 and 9 across all fair price shops in the state. The initiative aims to help beneficiaries complete the mandatory biometric verification required under the National Food Security Act, 2013.

Under the Public Distribution System (PDS), eligible rice card holders receive 35 kg of free rice along with subsidised essentials such as cooking oil, sugar, and pulses. To continue receiving these benefits, every family member listed on the ration card must complete eKYC using fingerprint authentication.

The eKYC verification drive has been underway since October 2023, and the Tamil Nadu government has stated that 95.86% of priority ration cards have already completed the process.

To achieve 100% eKYC completion, special camps will be conducted at all ration shops from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on August 8 and 9. Beneficiaries who have not yet completed the verification are advised to visit their respective ration shops and complete the biometric process.

At the ration shop, officials will also inform cardholders if any family member`s eKYC is still pending. The mandatory verification has been introduced to ensure ration benefits reach eligible beneficiaries and to eliminate fake ration cards.
