Chennai Egmore Train Services Changed: 9 Express Trains Affected from August 5

Southern Railway has announced temporary changes to the services of nine express trains due to the ongoing redevelopment work at Chennai Egmore Railway Station. The revised train operations will be in effect from August 5 to August 20, 2026.

According to an official statement, several trains will either be partially cancelled, originate from a different station, or operate on diverted routes during this period.

Partial Cancellation of Train Services

From August 5 to August 19, the following trains will operate only up to Tambaram Railway Station instead of Chennai Egmore:

  • Thanjavur - Chennai Egmore Express
  • Mangaluru - Chennai Egmore Express
  • Kollam - Chennai Egmore Express
  • Salem - Chennai Egmore Express

In addition, the Tiruchirappalli - Chennai Egmore Rockfort Express will terminate at Mambalam Railway Station during the same period.

Change in Originating Station

From August 6 to August 20, the following trains will depart from Tambaram Railway Station instead of Chennai Egmore:

  • Chennai Egmore - Thanjavur Uzhavan Express
  • Chennai Egmore - Mangaluru Express
  • Chennai Egmore - Kollam Ananthapuri Express
  • Chennai Egmore - Tiruchirappalli Rockfort Express

Passengers are advised to report to Tambaram Railway Station for boarding these services.

Trains Diverted on Alternate Routes

The Ahmedabad - Chennai Express, scheduled to depart at 9:30 AM, will run on an alternate route via Tiruttani and Chengalpattu on August 6 and August 13. As a result, the train will not pass through Arakkonam, Perambur, and Chennai Egmore.

Similarly, the Tiruchirappalli - Ahmedabad Express, departing at 5:45 AM, will operate via Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, and Tiruttani on August 9 and August 16, skipping Chennai Egmore and Perambur stations.

Southern Railway has advised passengers to verify their train schedules and boarding stations before commencing their journey to avoid any inconvenience during the redevelopment period.
