Mamallapuram Heavy Rain Brings Relief to Tourists; Roads Waterlogged

Mamallapuram received sudden heavy rain yesterday afternoon, bringing relief to tourists and residents after several days of intense heat.

Dark clouds gathered over the coastal town before heavy rain continued for more than 30 minutes. The showers brought down the temperature and created a pleasant atmosphere for visitors.

However, the heavy rain also caused waterlogging on several roads, including Thirukalukundram Road, Kovalam Road, East Coast Road, Othavadai Street and roads leading to the beach. Rainwater flowed across some stretches like a flood, slowing down traffic.

Vehicles moved slowly on the rain-hit roads, while college students and residents were seen travelling home in the rain.

Tourists visiting Mamallapuram, meanwhile, took shelter under the Krishna`s Butter Ball rock to avoid getting wet. Once the rain stopped, normal conditions returned and the sun became intense again.

The sudden Mamallapuram rain provided much-needed relief from the recent heat, while also highlighting the need for effective rainwater drainage in busy tourist areas.
