Upcoming Electric Cars in India: Major EV Launches Expected Before 2027

India`s electric vehicle market is set for significant growth, with leading automakers preparing to launch several new electric SUVs and MPVs before 2027. Manufacturers including Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors and Hyundai are expected to expand their EV portfolios with models offering improved driving range and advanced technology.

1. Maruti YMC Electric MPV

Maruti Suzuki is developing its second electric vehicle, codenamed YMC, following the launch of the e Vitara.

The EV is expected to feature SUV-inspired styling and will likely be offered with 49 kWh and 61 kWh battery pack options. The larger battery is expected to deliver a driving range of around 500 km, while power outputs could range from 142 hp to 172 hp.

2. Tata Sierra EV

The Tata Sierra EV is expected to be one of the company`s flagship electric SUVs.

It is likely to be offered in rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations, with a claimed driving range of up to 600 km. The SUV is also expected to feature Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) charging and an independent rear suspension.

3. Tata Safari EV

Tata Motors is also preparing the electric version of the Safari SUV.

The model is expected to share its electric powertrain and battery technology with the Harrier EV and could offer a driving range of around 600 km, making it suitable for long-distance travel.

4. Hyundai HE1i Electric SUV

Hyundai is developing a new entry-level electric SUV, currently known by the codename HE1i, with an expected launch before 2027.

The SUV is likely to feature a boxy design, pixel-style LED lighting, a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a 9.9-inch digital instrument cluster. It is expected to be available with two battery pack options, with the larger version offering a claimed range of approximately 375-400 km.

These upcoming launches are expected to strengthen India`s EV market by offering buyers more choices across different price segments, along with longer driving ranges, improved technology, and enhanced features.
