The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has introduced electric three-wheeler patrol scooters at Dr. M.G.R. Chennai Central Railway Station to improve passenger safety, station surveillance, and crowd management.

The newly launched battery-operated vehicles, called ‘TRIKE’, will be used by RPF personnel for patrolling platforms, passenger concourses, and circulating areas, especially during peak travel hours and heavy crowd movement.

According to railway officials, the electric patrol scooters are equipped with advanced features including GPS tracking, RFID-based ignition systems, sirens, and public address systems. The vehicles can travel at a maximum speed of 15 km/h and are designed for quick response during emergencies and passenger assistance operations.

The initiative is expected to strengthen security arrangements at Chennai Central, one of the busiest railway stations in Tamil Nadu. Railway authorities said the electric patrol vehicles will help improve mobility for RPF personnel and enhance monitoring across station premises.

Officials also confirmed that similar electric patrol scooters will soon be introduced at major railway stations under Chennai Division, including Chennai Egmore Railway Station, Tambaram Railway Station, Arakkonam Junction Railway Station, Chengalpattu Junction Railway Station, Katpadi Junction Railway Station, and Tiruvallur Railway Station.

The move is part of Indian Railways’ modernisation initiative aimed at improving railway station security while promoting eco-friendly transportation solutions.
