Sensational Southern Railways!! First Amrit Bharat Express train to be operated in TN!!
Covering a distance of over 3300 kms between Tamil Nadu and Bihar!! Sound`s superb right!!
We are now talking about the Amrit Bharat express train that would be operated by the Southern Railways from TN to Bihar.
A long distance non-a/c train, Amrit Bharat express number 16601/16602 would be operated by the SR or Southern Railways in the state of Tamil Nadu. This is now spoken in high esteem by many as it would be the first Amrit Bharat express train to be operated by SR.
Important information is that this train would cover a huge distance of more than 3300 kms between Erode in TN State to Jogbani in Bihar state across 8 zones.
On 4th September 2025, Railway Board issued an order and as per the order the Amrit Bharat express train would leave Erode at 7am in the morning every Thursday and return from Jogbani every Sunday at 7:30 am.
Various places the express train would cover are Salem, Katpadi, Perambur, Vijawada, Nagpur, Jabalpur, Patna, Katihar etc with 50 commercial halts.
The railway rake would be maintained at erode and at Katihar and the train would have as many as 22 coaches in the Amrit Bharat configuration that is 8 second class sitting cum luggage coaches, 11 second class sitting coaches, 2 brakes cum luggage coaches and one coach for staff and tools.
It must be noted that since February 2025 the rake allotted to SR remained unused despite multiple other zone launching services. At depots like Tiruvottriyur and Naidupett, the rake that was built by ICF was stabled. Before the regular weekly operations of Amrit Bharat express train, the inaugural train would operate as a special service.
It was later brought out by a transportation activist that this roll out was a positive start. He expected that Tirunelveli- Shalimar, Tambaram- Santragachi and Coimbatore- Gaya Amrit Bharat express trains also to operate in the near future.
