Chief Minister MK Stalin announced in the Assembly that around one crore women family heads will benefit from the Tamil Nadu government`s new scheme of providing Rs 1,000 monthly assistance. The amount will be directly credited to their bank accounts, and the government has allocated a sum of Rs 7,000 crore in the state budget for FY24 to implement this scheme.
The scheme, which is set to begin in September, aims to empower women and recognize their contribution to society. It will not only benefit women heads of eligible households but also fisherwomen, roadside shopkeepers, women working in construction, small shops, small business enterprises for low wages, and women working in more than one household in a day.
Chief Minister Stalin emphasized that women who provide invaluable labor in various forms will benefit from this scheme, and it is the biggest project of the year for the Tamil Nadu government. Guidelines for the Women`s Empowerment Scheme will be out soon, he added.
