This could be a boon for those patients with ribcage injuries or disorders etc!!
The famous Chennai based SIMS hospitals has now launched a dedicated centre for treating ribcage disorders and breastbone density deformity etc
The health experts have mentioned that the newly opened centre would cater to the patients with rib fractures, those with multiple rib fractures, flail chest or multiple fractured ribs that move abnormally during breathing and complications like pneumothorax or collapsed lung and subcutaneous emphysema etc.
These days there are more cases of patients who visit SIMS hospital with life threatening injuries on their rib cages due to accidents etc. The centre would treat the patients with minimally invasive procedures. As a result, the patients would not have any need to stay at the hospital for treatment. This was according to the Head of the Centre of Excellence at SIMS, Dr. V.V. Bakshi. He is also the Director of the Institute of Cardiac and Aortic Disorders.
It was later brought out by Dr. Rajkamal Vishnu, cardiothoracic surgeon that this centre would focus on ribcage disorders that change the chest dynamics leading to breathing problems etc. He hinted that titanium rods could be used for the procedures. He concluded that the normal anatomy of the rib cage would be preserved.
