Water storage levels in the five major reservoirs supplying drinking water to Chennai have reached an encouraging 95.01% of total capacity, ensuring adequate water supply for the city.
The five key reservoirs - Chembarambakkam, Poondi, Puzhal, Cholavaram, and Kannankottai - have a combined total capacity of 11.757 TMC (thousand million cubic feet). At present, these reservoirs together hold 11.171 TMC of water.
Reservoir-wise storage levels are as follows:
Chembarambakkam – 100%
Puzhal – 100%
Poondi – 100%
Cholavaram – 49.21%
Kannankottai – 92.6%
Officials stated that the near-full storage across Chennai’s primary water sources is a positive sign for drinking water availability in the coming months.
