New Order!! College Road Lane in Nungambakkam to be Renamed as Jaishankar Road!!
If there was one actor in the Tamil film industry who gave tough competition to the legendary stars like MGR, Sivaji Ganesan, and Gemini Ganesan in the 1960s and 1970s, it was none other than Thenagathu James Bond or Makkal Kalaignar Mr. Jaishankar.
Known for his stylish screen presence and unique acting style, Mr. Jaishankar became a sensational figure in Tamil cinema during the 60s and 70s. Later, in the 1980s, he showcased his versatility by excelling in villain roles as well. Many of his films turned out to be huge blockbusters, earning him a special place in Tamil cinema history. Even after his demise, the actor and humanitarian continues to live in the hearts of fans. This has once again been highlighted by the latest order from the Tamil Nadu government.
It has been confirmed that the TN government has issued an order to rename College Road Lane in Nungambakkam as Jaishankar Road, in honor of the late actor.
The order was released by Mr. T. Karthikeyan, Principal Secretary of Municipal Administration and Drinking Water Supply. As per the order, Mr. Vijayshankar, son of the late actor, had written a letter to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr. M.K. Stalin, requesting that the road be renamed. He had explained that Mr. Jaishankar resided at College Road Lane, Nungambakkam, from 1964 to 2000, making the location a significant part of his life.
In addition, a petition was filed by Mr. Vijayshankar with the Corporation Commissioner’s office regarding this name change. Based on this petition, a request was made to the state government on behalf of the Commissioner.
Finally, the government has now approved the resolution, granting permission to rename College Road Lane, Nungambakkam, as Jaishankar Road.
