North Chennai Water Supply: ₹4,800 Crore Desalination Project Planned in Minjur

A ₹4,800 crore seawater desalination project will be established in Minjur to meet the drinking water needs of North Chennai, Avadi, Ponneri and Minjur, Chief Minister Vijay announced in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.

The proposed Minjur desalination project will have the capacity to convert 400 million litres of seawater into drinking water every day (400 MLD).

The announcement was made under Rule 110 in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. The Chief Minister said several drinking water projects would be implemented to ensure an uninterrupted supply of potable water to the public.

The 400 MLD desalination plant in Minjur is expected to strengthen the drinking water supply in North Chennai and neighbouring areas, including Avadi and Ponneri, and help meet their growing water requirements.
