Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on Monday inaugurated the newly developed Navalur Eco Park at the SIPCOT campus in Navalur, marking a significant milestone in urban environmental conservation.
The eco park has been created as part of the Navalur Lake restoration project, aimed at improving water conservation, biodiversity, and public recreational infrastructure along Chennai’s IT corridor.
Eco Park Spread Across 33 Acres
The Navalur Eco Park has been developed on a restored lake spread across 33.43 acres. The project involved extensive desilting, strengthening of bunds, and landscaping to revive the waterbody and surrounding ecosystem.

The park offers a wide range of amenities for the public, including:
- Environmental awareness and knowledge centre
- Children’s play area
- Open-air gym facilities
- Food court and leisure spaces
- Walking tracks and landscaped gardens

Benefit to IT Corridor and Local Residents
Located within the Siruseri SIPCOT campus, a major IT and industrial hub, the eco park is expected to benefit thousands of IT professionals, local residents, and visitors. Officials said the park will serve as a green lung for the region while enhancing groundwater recharge and ecological balance.
Government’s Focus on Urban Green Spaces
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin emphasised the importance of protecting water bodies and expanding green spaces as part of the government’s long-term vision for sustainable urban development. He urged the public to actively participate in preserving the eco park and maintaining its cleanliness.
