38.8 Lakh Chennai Consumers to Receive Smart Power Meters

Chennai is set to modernize its electricity billing system with the rollout of smart power meters for approximately 38.8 lakh consumers across the city.

The new smart meters will automatically record electricity consumption, generate bills at the end of each billing cycle, and send payment notifications directly to consumers, making the billing process more efficient and convenient.

The initiative has already been introduced in parts of the city, with around 1.29 lakh smart meters installed in T. Nagar and surrounding areas. Following the successful implementation of the pilot phase, the project will now be expanded across the entire Chennai region.
