Gold Prices Jump on Aadi Perukku: Should Investors Buy Now or Wait?

Gold prices have continued to witness fluctuations over the past few weeks, but the overall movement has remained relatively moderate. Last week, the price of 22-carat gold declined by only ₹640 per sovereign, while silver prices slipped by ₹5 per gram at the beginning of the week before remaining steady at ₹235 per gram for the next six days.

With the markets closed on Sunday (August 2), gold prices remained unchanged at ₹1,05,760 per sovereign. However, on Monday (August 3), coinciding with the Aadi Perukku festival in Tamil Nadu, gold prices recorded a fresh rise. The price of 22-carat gold increased by ₹240 per sovereign to ₹1,06,000, while the per-gram price rose by ₹30 to ₹13,250. Silver prices continued to remain unchanged at ₹235 per gram.

What Is Driving Gold Prices?

Gold prices are influenced by a combination of global economic conditions, geopolitical developments, central bank policies, inflation expectations, and currency movements. Although tensions between the US and Iran have eased, reducing one major safe-haven trigger, investors continue to closely monitor global uncertainties and the strength of the US dollar.

A stronger US dollar generally puts downward pressure on gold prices, while expectations of lower interest rates or renewed geopolitical risks tend to support higher gold prices.

Should Investors Buy During Price Swings?

Financial experts suggest that investors should avoid making decisions based on daily price movements alone. Instead of trying to predict short-term highs and lows, long-term investors may benefit from accumulating gold gradually through systematic purchases.

Festive seasons often witness increased jewellery demand, but investment decisions should be based on financial goals rather than temporary price fluctuations.

Outlook for August

Market analysts believe that gold prices may remain volatile throughout August as investors react to global economic data, inflation reports, and international policy decisions. While some experts expect short-term corrections if the US dollar strengthens further, others believe that continued demand for gold as a safe-haven asset could keep prices well supported.

For long-term investors, gold continues to play an important role as a portfolio diversifier and a hedge against inflation. Rather than focusing on short-term fluctuations, experts recommend maintaining a disciplined investment approach and reviewing asset allocation periodically.
