Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Light Rain Forecast for Chennai; Fishermen Advised Not to Venture into Sea

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has forecast light to moderate rainfall in parts of Tamil Nadu due to the presence of a trough along the North Tamil Nadu coast.

According to the weather department, isolated places in the Western Ghats districts are likely to receive moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. Meanwhile, light rain with thunderstorms is expected at isolated places across the rest of Tamil Nadu, including Puducherry and Karaikal.

Chennai Weather Forecast

For today, the sky over Chennai and its suburbs is expected to remain partly cloudy. Light rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely in a few areas of the city.

Maximum Temperature: 37°C to 38°C
Minimum Temperature: 27°C to 28°C

The weather department has also indicated that maximum temperatures may remain 2°C to 3°C above normal at isolated places across Tamil Nadu.

Fishermen Warning

The RMC has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea due to strong winds expected over several coastal and offshore regions.

- South Tamil Nadu coastal areas, Gulf of Mannar, and adjoining Kumari Sea: Winds of 45–55 kmph, gusting up to 65 kmph.

- Parts of the Central Bay of Bengal: Winds of 40–50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph.

- Central-West Arabian Sea and adjoining East-Central Arabian Sea: Winds of 45–55 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph.

- North Karnataka coast: Winds of 40–50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph.

Fishermen are urged to follow the advisory and avoid venturing into these sea areas until weather conditions improve.
