Tamil Nadu to Operate Over 22,000 Special Buses for Pongal Festival
With the Tamil festival of Thai Pongal set to be celebrated on January 15, thousands of people living in major cities such as Chennai, Coimbatore, and Madurai are expected to travel to their hometowns. To facilitate smooth and hassle-free travel during the festive rush, the Tamil Nadu Transport Department has announced the operation of special buses this Pongal season.
A crucial consultative meeting in this regard was held today at the Secretariat, chaired by Transport Minister S.S. Sivasankar. During the meeting, it was decided to operate 22,797 special buses from Chennai to various destinations across the State to cater to the increased passenger demand.
Transport Department officials stated that the special bus services will commence from January 9 onwards. In addition, private buses will be hired if required to ensure adequate transportation facilities for passengers during the festival period.
