The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Chennai, has forecast moderate rain with thunder and lightning across parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry today and tomorrow. The weather activity is attributed to variations in easterly wind flow prevailing over the region.
Rainfall Recorded in the Last 24 Hours
In the past 24 hours, Mimisal in Pudukkottai district recorded 4 cm of rainfall, the highest in the state. This was followed by 3 cm of rain each in Thiruvadanai (Ramanathapuram district), and Oothu, Kakachi, and Nalumukku (Tirunelveli district).
Chennai Weather Update
For today, Chennai and its suburban areas are expected to remain partly cloudy, with chances of light rain in a few locations. Residents can expect mild weather conditions with intermittent showers.
Fishermen Warning: Strong Winds Expected
IMD has also issued a wind advisory for the North Coastal Tamil Nadu region. Squally winds with speeds ranging between 35–45 kmph, and gusting up to 55 kmph, are likely tomorrow. Fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the sea during this period for safety reasons.
