Heatwave Alert in Tamil Nadu: 8 Districts Likely to Record 2°C–4°C Above Normal Temperatures Till July 28

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has issued a heatwave advisory for eight districts in Tamil Nadu, warning that maximum temperatures are likely to remain 2°C to 4°C above normal for the next five days, from July 24 to July 28.

The districts expected to experience higher-than-normal temperatures are Vellore, Erode, Karur, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Thoothukudi, and Tirunelveli.

According to the weather department, the sudden rise in temperature is mainly due to a weak southwest monsoon, dry weather conditions, and delayed sea breeze across the state.

Meanwhile, a trough extending from Gujarat to Karnataka persists at mean sea level, while a weak low-level trough is present along the Tamil Nadu coast. Due to these weather systems, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms is likely at isolated places in the Western Ghats districts, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, and Puducherry.

Residents in the affected districts are advised to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak afternoon hours, and follow weather updates issued by the authorities.
