Tamil Nadu to Begin First Phase of Population Census from August 1

The first phase of the 16th Population Census in Tamil Nadu will be conducted from August 1 to August 30, with officials set to carry out a comprehensive House Listing and Housing Census across the State.

During the first phase, enumerators will collect detailed information about houses, household amenities, and basic infrastructure, including the type of house, availability of drinking water, electricity, sanitation facilities, cooking fuel, internet access, and other essential household details.

As part of the census process, the government has also released the questionnaire for the initial survey. In addition, self-enumeration under the 16th Population Census will begin, allowing eligible residents to submit their household information online.

The first phase is aimed at creating an updated database of housing conditions and household facilities, which will support future planning, policy formulation, and the implementation of welfare schemes.
