The Regional Meteorological Centre Chennai has indicated that a new low pressure area may form over the southwest Bay of Bengal near Sri Lanka within the next 48 hours, bringing increased chances of rainfall across Tamil Nadu.

Although Tamil Nadu has been experiencing intense summer heat in recent weeks, several areas have already started receiving intermittent rainfall. Weather officials now expect the atmospheric circulation prevailing over the southwest Bay of Bengal to strengthen further and develop into a low pressure system.

Due to this weather development, rainfall is likely to continue across Tamil Nadu for the next five days. The weather department has also warned that 17 districts may receive heavy rainfall today due to favourable atmospheric conditions.

According to the latest forecast, south Tamil Nadu and interior districts are likely to witness moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning at isolated places, while a few regions may receive heavy rainfall.

Meteorologists also stated that the developing low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal could move further northward, leading to cloudy weather conditions and occasional showers in coastal districts of Tamil Nadu.

The changing weather pattern is expected to provide temporary relief from the scorching summer temperatures prevailing across the state.
