The Greater Chennai Corporation has carried out an intensive cleanliness drive at 1,373 bus shelters across Chennai city, as part of its ongoing efforts to improve urban hygiene and public spaces.

According to an official release, the Corporation continues to strengthen its solid waste management operations, with an average of 6,300 metric tonnes of solid waste being cleared daily. In addition, around 1,000 metric tonnes of construction and demolition waste are removed every day across the city.

As part of periodic special sanitation initiatives, intensive cleaning works are regularly undertaken at bus stops, roads, bridges, burial grounds, parks, and other public places. Continuing this initiative, a focused cleanliness drive was conducted yesterday between 6:00 am and 8:00 am at all 1,373 bus shelters located across Zones 1 to 15 of Chennai.

The sanitation activities included removal of encroachments, clearing of posters and wall advertisements, removal of shrubs, garbage, and accumulated waste around bus shelters, and washing and cleaning using water sprinkling.

To ensure effective execution, designated responsible officers were appointed to monitor the work, and the cleanliness drive was carried out under their direct supervision.

The Corporation stated that such drives will continue at regular intervals to maintain cleanliness and improve the commuting experience for the public.
