Greater Chennai Corporation Conducts Special Enrollment Drive for Out-of-School Children at Ezhil Nagar

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has launched a special enrollment drive to help out-of-school children rejoin the education system. The initiative will be held today at the Chennai Middle School campus in Ezhil Nagar, with the objective of ensuring that every child has access to quality education and essential government welfare services.

The special camp is expected to benefit more than 1,000 students and their parents from six government schools, making the re-enrollment process faster and more convenient through a single-window service.

Over 1,000 Students to Benefit

The enrollment drive will cover students from the following schools:

- Chennai Primary School (CPS), Kannagi Nagar
- CPS 11th Street, Kannagi Nagar
- CPS Kannagi Nagar FAB
- Chennai Middle School, Ezhil Nagar
- Chennai Higher Secondary School, Kannagi Nagar
- Other nearby government schools

The primary objective of the camp is to help children who have discontinued their education return to school while simplifying the admission and documentation process.

Aadhaar, Birth and Community Certificates to Be Issued

To support students and parents, several essential government services will be provided at the camp, including:

- Aadhaar Card registration and updates
- Birth Certificate issuance
- Community Certificate
- Income Certificate
- Documentation required for educational scholarships
- Assistance with student welfare schemes

These services will help eligible students complete the necessary formalities required for school admissions and government scholarship programmes.

Financial Assistance Under Anbu Karangal Scheme

Eligible orphaned children can also apply for the Anbu Karangal Scheme through the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU).

Under the scheme, eligible children will receive ₹2,000 per month as financial assistance until they complete Class 12, helping them continue their education without financial hardship.

Multiple Government Departments to Provide Single-Window Services

To make the process more efficient, several government departments and agencies will participate in the camp, including:

- Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC)
- Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency (TNeGA)
- Chennai Revenue Department (South)
- Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar Housing and Development Corporation (TAHDCO)
- Civil Supplies Department
- District Child Protection Unit (DCPU)

The integrated single-window service will enable parents to obtain multiple documents and access welfare schemes at one location.

The Greater Chennai Corprporation has encouraged parents and guardians to make full use of the special enrollment camp by bringing eligible children to complete their school re-enrollment, obtain essential documents, and access government welfare benefits.

The initiative is part of GCC`s continued efforts to reduce school dropouts, improve access to education, and ensure that every child receives the support needed to continue their academic journey.
