The Tamil Nadu government has officially declared the Tiruchirappalli East Assembly Constituency seat vacant following the resignation of MLA C. Joseph Vijay. The announcement was made through an official government gazette notification.

During the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, C. Joseph Vijay had contested and won from both the Perambur and Tiruchi East Assembly constituencies. According to the Representation of the People Act, a candidate who wins from two constituencies must retain only one seat and resign from the other.

Following this rule, Vijay submitted his resignation as the MLA of Tiruchi East constituency to the Speaker on May 10. The resignation was accepted under Article 190(3)(b) of the Constitution and the relevant provisions of the Representation of the People Act.

The government gazette further stated that the Tiruchirappalli East Assembly Constituency seat has officially been declared vacant with effect from May 10.

The development is expected to pave the way for a by-election in the Tiruchi East Assembly constituency in the coming months.
