JSW Group Enters Electric Commercial Vehicle Market with AMPSTAR, Invests ₹2,500 Crore in Maharashtra Plant

Mumbai, September 23, 2026: JSW Group has entered India’s electric commercial vehicle market with the launch of AMPSTAR, a new brand focused on manufacturing and selling electric buses and trucks.

Launched under JSW Greentech Limited, the commercial electric vehicle arm of JSW Group, AMPSTAR will operate with the endorsement “Powered by JSW.” The company aims to support the transition towards cleaner commercial transportation in India.

₹2,500 Crore Investment in Maharashtra

JSW Greentech is investing approximately ₹2,500 crore in the first phase of its electric commercial vehicle business.

AMPSTAR vehicles will be manufactured at the company’s new 90-acre integrated facility at AURIC in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. The facility will have an annual production capacity of 10,000 electric buses and 5,000 electric trucks, taking the total capacity to 15,000 vehicles a year.

The plant will feature advanced manufacturing systems, including a pre-treatment and electro-deposition process for buses, an automated truck-cabin production line and an integrated battery ecosystem.

JSW Greentech also plans to significantly expand its production capacity in the coming years, with an ambition to become one of India’s top three commercial vehicle manufacturers by 2030.

Electric Buses for Multiple Applications

AMPSTAR plans to introduce electric buses ranging from 7 metres to 18 metres, targeting a variety of passenger transportation applications.

The product portfolio will cater to:

- Urban public transportation

- School transportation

- Employee and staff transportation

- Premium intercity travel

The company has already deployed its first fleet of 100 electric staff buses at JSW Steel’s Dolvi operations, allowing the vehicles to be evaluated under real-world operating conditions.

55 Tonne Electric Truck to Lead Industrial Range

In the electric truck segment, AMPSTAR will initially focus on a 55-tonne electric tractor-trailer designed for demanding applications across industries such as steel, cement, mining and ports.

The company also plans to expand its portfolio with electric tippers, fixed-body trucks and dumpers.

JSW Group is expected to provide an early customer base for AMPSTAR vehicles through its operations across steel, cement, energy, ports and logistics. These operations could also provide opportunities to evaluate vehicle performance across industrial routes.

Full Stack Commercial Mobility Solutions

AMPSTAR is positioning itself as a full-stack commercial mobility provider, with plans to offer more than electric vehicles.

Its proposed solutions include:

- Charging infrastructure

- Battery and energy-management solutions

- Vehicle financing

- Leasing and operating models

- Fleet-management support

- Maintenance and after-sales services

The integrated approach is aimed at helping fleet operators and industrial customers transition from conventional diesel vehicles to electric commercial mobility.

Commercial vehicles typically operate for long hours and consume significant amounts of fuel. Their electrification has the potential to reduce fuel consumption, support lower urban emissions and contribute to cleaner transportation.
