Tamil Nadu Weather: Rain Likely in Several Places from August 8 to 13, Chennai May Get Showers

Tamil Nadu is likely to receive light to moderate rainfall in several places from August 8 to 13, according to the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre. Rainfall is expected to be more prominent in the Western Ghats districts, northern Tamil Nadu and coastal areas during this period.

A weak low-level atmospheric trough is prevailing over the coastal areas of northern Tamil Nadu. Another weak trough extends from the southwest Bay of Bengal to the north Kerala coast through Tamil Nadu at an altitude of around 5.8 km. These weather systems are expected to influence rainfall activity across the state.

Tamil Nadu Rain Forecast

On August 8, Western Ghats districts may receive moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds at isolated places. Northern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal may also experience light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and strong winds.

On August 9, light to moderate rain is likely at isolated places in the Western Ghats districts, while other parts of Tamil Nadu may receive light rain.

From August 10 to 12, moderate rain is likely at isolated places across Tamil Nadu. On August 13, Western Ghats districts and northern coastal Tamil Nadu may receive light to moderate rain, while isolated areas in other parts of the state may get light showers.

Chennai Rain Forecast

Chennai and its suburbs are expected to remain partly cloudy on August 8. Some parts of the city may receive light to moderate rain with thunderstorms during the evening or night.

6 cm Rain Recorded in Upaasi

According to rainfall data recorded until 8.30 am, Upaasi received the highest rainfall of 6 cm in the past 24 hours.

Ayinkudi and Aranthangi in Pudukkottai district, Thiruthuraipoondi in Tiruvarur district, and Chinnakallar and Valparai in Coimbatore district recorded 5 cm each.

Sinkona in Coimbatore district and Sulangurichi in Kallakurichi district recorded 4 cm of rainfall each.
