Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has recorded a strong growth in passenger traffic, with 96,75,993 commuters travelling on the metro network during June 2026. The impressive ridership reflects the increasing preference for Chennai Metro as a fast, safe, and reliable mode of public transportation in the city.

According to CMRL, the highest single-day ridership during the month was recorded on June 24, 2026, when 3,77,208 passengers travelled on metro services.

Nearly One Crore Passengers Travelled in June

CMRL said nearly 97 lakh passengers used its services in June, highlighting the growing adoption of metro rail for daily commuting. The metro network continues to attract office-goers, students, shoppers, and tourists due to its punctuality, comfort, and seamless connectivity across Chennai.

The steady increase in ridership also reflects the success of CMRL`s digital ticketing initiatives and customer-friendly fare policies.

Singara Chennai Card Most Popular Ticketing Option

Among all ticketing methods, the Singara Chennai Card (National Common Mobility Card - NCMC) remained the preferred choice for commuters.

During June 2026:

- 48,83,485 passengers travelled using the Singara Chennai Card.
- 19,28,372 passengers used Single Journey Paper QR Tickets.
- 12,13,854 passengers booked tickets through ONDC.
- 4,29,255 passengers used WhatsApp Ticketing.
- 2,90,492 passengers booked through Paytm.
- 2,63,433 passengers used PhonePe.
- 2,46,608 passengers travelled using the Chennai One App.
- 2,03,398 passengers used Static QR Tickets.
- 1,27,795 passengers travelled using Online QR Tickets.
- 80,224 passengers used the CMRL Mobile App (Digital SVP).
- 9,077 passengers travelled using the Vijay Antony Music Concert Event QR Ticket.


20% Fare Discount on Digital Ticketing

To encourage cashless and paperless travel, CMRL continues to offer a 20% fare discount to passengers using eligible digital ticketing platforms, including:

- Singara Chennai Card (NCMC)
- CMRL Mobile App (Digital SVP)
- QR Code Tickets
- WhatsApp Ticketing (+91 83000 86000)
- Paytm
- PhonePe
- Chennai One App

However, the discount is not available for Single Journey Paper QR Tickets purchased directly from ticket counters at metro stations.

The increasing use of digital payment platforms has made metro travel quicker and more convenient by reducing waiting times at ticket counters. CMRL continues to promote smart ticketing solutions as part of its efforts to enhance commuter experience and encourage public transport usage.
