Rain is likely in 23 districts of Tamil Nadu today due to prevailing weather systems over Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, according to the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre.
A low-level trough is prevailing at around 0.9 km above sea level, extending from north interior Karnataka to the Gulf of Mannar through south interior Karnataka and parts of Tamil Nadu. An atmospheric circulation is also prevailing at around 1.5 km above sea level over south coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining Rayalaseema.
Heavy Rain Likely in 7 Districts
Due to these weather conditions, heavy rain accompanied by thunder, lightning and strong winds is likely at one or two places in:
- Nilgiris
- Coimbatore
- Karur
- Tiruchirappalli
- Perambalur
- Ariyalur
- Thanjavur
Moderate Rain in Several Districts
Moderate rain with thunder, lightning and strong winds may occur at a few places in other Western Ghats districts and in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Ranipet, Vellore, Tirupattur, Salem, Tiruppur, Erode, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Namakkal, Kallakurichi, Madurai and Sivaganga.
