With the summer holidays approaching, residents of major cities like Coimbatore and other urban centres have begun planning trips to their native places and tourist destinations. As a result, there has been a significant surge in advance train ticket bookings across Tamil Nadu.
According to Southern Railway officials, passengers are actively booking tickets for travel during the summer vacation period. Since Indian Railways allows advance reservation up to 60 days for express trains, tickets are being booked rapidly through the IRCTC website and railway station counters.
Heavy Demand for Southern District Express Trains
Officials stated that express trains to southern districts are witnessing extremely high demand. Popular routes from Chennai to:
- Tiruchendur
- Kanniyakumari
- Tirunelveli
- Thoothukudi
- Tenkasi
- Kollam
have already seen full reservations for travel on April 24 in most express services.
Only a few trains, including select premium services like the Vande Bharat Express, still have limited ticket availability.
Tickets Selling Out Quickly
Each day when booking opens, a majority of tickets get sold out within a short time due to heavy passenger demand. Many trains are already running with long waiting lists.
Railway officials have indicated that special trains may be operated on high-demand routes, depending on waiting list trends and passenger requirements. An official announcement regarding additional summer special trains is expected by the end of next month.
