Perambur to Get ₹25 Crore Integrated Sports Complex, Major Infrastructure Upgrade

Perambur is set for a major infrastructure boost as the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) plans to implement several development projects across the constituency. The initiatives include a ₹25 crore integrated sports complex, improved healthcare facilities, upgraded schools, new housing projects, and waterbody restoration works.

The highlight of the development plan is a six-acre integrated sports complex coming up on Erukancheri High Road at Sharma Nagar, Vyasarpadi. The project replaces an earlier proposal for a three-acre mini indoor stadium and aims to provide world-class sports infrastructure for North Chennai.

According to GCC officials, the sports complex will feature facilities for swimming, athletics, football, badminton, boxing, table tennis, and several other indoor and outdoor sports.

The civic body has obtained a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Water Resources Department to begin the project. Officials said the existing Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the mini indoor stadium will be revised to accommodate the larger integrated sports complex.

Preliminary site preparation has already begun, with land clearing and levelling works currently underway.

Apart from the sports complex, the GCC is implementing several civic improvement projects across Perambur, including:

- Development of encroachment-free footpaths

- Restoration of waterbodies

- Improvement of civic infrastructure

- Construction of new housing for eligible families

- Additional classrooms for corporation schools

- A new community hall

- A food complex

- A multi-speciality children`s hospital

- A dedicated dialysis centre

Officials said alternative housing will be provided for families affected by the removal of encroachments, in coordination with the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board (TNUHDB).

Recently, Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner G.S. Sameeran inspected the ongoing and proposed projects along with senior officials to review the progress of the development works.

The projects are expected to improve sports infrastructure, public healthcare, education, housing, and civic amenities, contributing to the overall development of the Perambur constituency.
