Madurantakam and Dharapuram By-Election: Nomination Filing Ends Today

The nomination filing process for the Tamil Nadu Assembly by-elections in Madurantakam and Dharapuram constituencies will end today, September 16. Polling in both constituencies is scheduled for October 6, 2026, while the counting of votes will take place on October 9.

By-Election

The by-elections in Madurantakam and Dharapuram are being closely watched as the first by-elections to be held after the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) came to power under the leadership of Vijay.

The nomination process began on September 9. Major political parties, including the TVK, DMK, AIADMK and Naam Tamilar Katchi, have announced candidates and intensified their election activities. Left parties have also announced candidates for the two constituencies.

Nomination Filing Ends Today

TVK and DMK candidates filed their nominations on September 15. With the nomination process ending today, scrutiny of the nominations will be held on September 17, while September 19 is the last date for withdrawing nominations.

According to the announced election schedule, voting will be held on October 6 and the results will be declared after counting on October 9.

Candidates in the Two Constituencies

The TVK has fielded Maragatham Kumaravel in Madurantakam and Sathyabama in Dharapuram. Both had previously won the respective constituencies as AIADMK MLAs and later resigned from their Assembly positions before joining the TVK.

The DMK has fielded I. Parandhaman in Madurantakam and S. Suganya in Dharapuram.

The AIADMK has also announced its candidates for the two constituencies, while other parties are participating in the by-elections as well.

The final list of candidates will be known after the completion of nomination scrutiny and the withdrawal process.
