Vadaperumbakkam Bridge Inauguration Boosts North Chennai Connectivity

Posted on: 22/Dec/2025 10:39:44 AM

The newly constructed Vadaperumbakkam bridge is set to be inaugurated by KN Nehru, Minister for Municipal Administration and Water Supply. Built at a cost of ₹22.41 crore, the bridge is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Vadaperumbakkam, Manali, and Madhavaram, benefiting nearly one lakh residents.

Constructed across the Puzhal Surplus Canal, the new bridge replaces an old low-level structure that was frequently submerged during the monsoon, cutting off vehicular movement. The new facility ensures uninterrupted road access even during heavy rains, addressing a long-standing issue faced by local residents.

The 190-metre-long and 7.5-metre-wide bridge links Ward 17 of Manali zone and Ward 23 of Madhavaram zone, enhancing daily commute and emergency access. The project was funded by the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority and the Greater Chennai Corporation capital fund.

Despite delays due to pandemic lockdowns, land acquisition challenges, and relocation of key infrastructure, the bridge is now ready for public use and is expected to play a crucial role in improving North Chennai’s road connectivity.
