Chennai Metro Signs ₹76.70 Lakh Contract for Guindy Multi-Modal Transit Hub DPR

In a major step towards improving urban transportation infrastructure in Chennai, Chennai Metro Asset Management Limited (CMAML) has signed a contract agreement for the preparation of a Detailed Feasibility Report (DFR) and Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a proposed Multi-Modal Transit Hub at Guindy.

The contract, valued at ₹76.70 lakh, has been awarded to CBRE South Asia Private Limited, New Delhi. The agreement was signed on Wednesday as part of Chennai Metro Rail`s efforts to enhance connectivity and commuter convenience at one of the city`s busiest transport intersections.

According to Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), the consultancy assignment will include comprehensive market studies, transaction advisory services, land-use assessments, and the preparation of concept plans for the proposed transit hub.

The Guindy Multi-Modal Transit Hub is being planned to provide seamless integration between multiple modes of public transportation, including the Guindy Metro Station, Guindy Suburban Railway Station, and the nearby bus terminus. The project aims to create a unified transportation ecosystem that will enable commuters to switch between different modes of transit with ease.

CMRL stated that the proposed hub has been envisioned to ensure efficient physical integration among existing transit services while improving passenger experience. Once implemented, the project is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion in and around Guindy, improve traffic circulation, facilitate safer pedestrian movement, and enhance overall commuter convenience.

The development will also explore opportunities for integrating commercial infrastructure within the transit hub, creating a modern and sustainable urban mobility center. As Guindy serves as a key gateway connecting several parts of Chennai, the project is expected to play a crucial role in supporting the city`s growing transportation needs.

The proposed multi-modal hub is part of Chennai Metro Rail`s broader vision to strengthen public transport connectivity and encourage greater use of integrated transit systems across the city.
