Gold and silver prices recorded a sharp increase in Tamil Nadu today (January 10, 2026), reversing the recent declining trend seen in the bullion market.
According to bullion traders, the price of 22-carat gold increased by ₹100 per gram, taking the rate to ₹12,900 per gram. As a result, the price of one sovereign (8 grams) rose by ₹800, and is now selling at ₹1,03,200.
In Chennai, gold prices moved upward in line with the state trend, bringing relief to traders but prompting buyers to remain cautious amid ongoing volatility.
Silver Prices Surge
Silver prices also witnessed a notable rise today. The price of silver increased by ₹7 per gram, reaching ₹275 per gram. Consequently, bar silver is now priced at ₹2,75,000 per kilogram.
Market Outlook
Market experts attribute the sudden rise in gold and silver prices to global market cues, currency fluctuations, and international demand for safe-haven assets. With global economic uncertainty continuing, precious metal prices are expected to remain volatile in the coming days.
Traders advise investors and consumers to closely monitor price movements before making purchase decisions, especially ahead of the festive and wedding season.
