Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Shri Pralhad Joshi has called on the wind energy industry to increase local content in wind projects to 85% from the current 64%, aligning with the Prime Minister’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat in clean energy technologies.
Speaking at the 7th edition of Windergy India 2025, held in Chennai from October 29 to 31, 2025, the minister highlighted that strengthening domestic manufacturing is key to building a resilient clean energy supply chain amid global challenges.
He noted that wind energy contributes nearly one-fifth of India’s 257 GW installed renewable capacity and emphasized that India could capture 10% of the global wind supply chain by 2030.
Mr. Girish Tanti, Chairman of the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA), reaffirmed the sector’s commitment to advancing localization, citing India’s strong base of 2,500 MSMEs and over 10% global market share in wind component manufacturing.
The event saw participation from 350 exhibitors across 20 countries and 15,000 visitors, marking it as India’s largest wind energy industry platform.
