CMRL Completes RDSO Safety Certification Trials for Phase 2 Rolling Stock
Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has successfully completed the safety certification trials of its Phase 2 Rolling Stock (Metro train coaches) on the track section between Poonamallee Bypass and Porur Junction Metro Stations.
The trials were carried out by the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO), an independent agency under the Ministry of Railways, Government of India. Conducted in line with metro rail certification norms, the trials commenced on August 16, 2025. They evaluated passenger ride comfort at varying speeds up to the design speed of 90 kmph, traction system performance, and braking efficiency under different operational modes.
The assessment focused on key parameters:
1. Ride Quality – Examining the comfort level of passengers based on the performance of both the rolling stock and the track.
2. Passenger Safety – Evaluating critical safety systems, including electrical, pneumatic, and emergency braking features, with verification that braking design and construction meet stringent safety standards.
Officials confirmed that the trials demonstrate compliance with all design and safety features, ensuring the trains can safely stop even when fully loaded within the required distance.
Significantly, the trials were completed ahead of schedule, highlighting the robust quality and safety standards maintained in CMRL’s Phase 2 trains.
