Everything needs to be changed at some point of time or else they would become outdated!!

As the existing curriculum is totally outdated, the syllabus for shorthand and typewriting have been changed now after more than 15 years. This has been the subject for discussion for many now.

The course content was not up to the requirements of the present day and hence the Directorate of Technical Education or DOTE has worked on the updation of the syllabus. It is learnt that the wing of the higher education department, DOTE, has released the draft syllabus for typewriting and shorthand.

According to the new typewriting syllabus, the students now have a minimum qualification of class 7 to appear for pre-junior typewriting (English and Tamil). This was mentioned by a senior officer from DOTE. He spoke about how the old syllabus has allowed the students to appear for pre-junior sixth standard.

It is learnt that now the students would not be able to appear for junior grade or senior grade by passing pre-junior grade in both typewriting and shorthand. Point is that from now on the pre-junior typewriting students would not have a second paper. The official then explained about the removal of the old version of GO, professional letters, business letters found in the existing syllabus in the typewriting exam paper 2 have been removed.

It must be noted that these have been replaced with legal proceedings, resume and official letters in the second paper for the typewriting senior grade exams. In the senior grade typewriting exam paper 1, additional 200 words are included to test the speed of the candidates.  For lower grade candidates, questions from pitman shorthand rules would be introduced.
