The adequate supply of vegetables from Tamil Nadu and from states like AP, Karnataka etc have now led to the reduction in the vegetable prices in Chennai.  It was brought out by some traders in the Koyambedu wholesale market that the prices of vegetables would remain stable or decrease further by 10% to 15% from the next week due to third crop cultivation.

The crops were damaged badly due to intense rainfall in the neighbouring states and this has led to a surge in the prices. This happened in the past but now the situation has come to normal.  Every day atleast 450 vehicles with vegetables arrive at the market.

According to Mr. P. Sukumaran, secretary of Koyambedu Wholesale Merchants Association it was clear that during the third crop cultivation in 2023 the production has increased. He hinted that after the prices were reduced the sales of vegetables have also increased. He added that as the prices of vegetables were reduced the wastage has increased. This was regarding veggies like tomatoes, pumpkins, bottle gourd and cucumber etc. In the evening, other veggies were sold for Rs 10 to Rs 20 per kg.

As per another trader at the market, the prices of vegetables would increase in this upcoming monsoon season.
