Important facility for the public that will be coming to the localities in north Chennai!!

The water inundation in many areas in north Chennai would become a thing of the past!!
Soon, the underground drainage system would be available in 9 more localities under the GCC limits. These areas are Madhavaram, Puzhal, Mathur, Vadaperumbakkam, Theeyambakkam, Edayanchavadi, Sadayankuppam, Kadapakkam and Semmencherry. It was confirmed by some officers that more than 11.3lakhs residents belonging to these areas would benefit.
The sewage generated in these areas would be sent to Kodungaiyur treatment plant having capacity to treat 350 MLD of sewage. This was according to CMWSSB or Metro Water. From Semmenchery, the sewage generated would be sent to the Sholinganallur plant having capacity to treat up to 72 MLD of sewage. Ninety eight point eight MLD would be the total sewage generated in these areas.
In another 3 years of time, work on the underground drainage system that would cover many north Chennai areas would be completed and in 2 years work on Semmenchery underground drainage system would be completed.It is known that the north Chennai residents face inundation issues due to the lack of an underground drainage system. In the recent rains, the residents of north Chennai suffered as the water did not drain for several days even after the rains had stopped.
