Persistent Rain: 20 cm! - Brimming Chennai Metro City water reservoir lakes!

The Northeast Monsoon rainy season has intensified in Tamil Nadu! As such, it has been raining heavily in the districts of Chennai, Chengalpattu, Thiruvallur and Kanchipuram over the past 2 days! A maximum rainfall of 20 cm has been recorded at Thiruvotriyur and 11.2 cm at Nungambakkam, Meenambakkam recorded 8.2 cm in.  Nandanam – 8, 7 cm. All the 4 major water reservoirs supplying wart to Chennai Metro City are filling quite fast! The capacity of the Puzhal reservoir has gone up. The capacity of Puzhal Lake is 3300 million cft. The present water capacity is 2692 million cft. The inflow of water is at 567 cft per second! Drinking water for Chennai Metro city is released at 159 cft per second.

The Puzhal Lake, Chemabaramabakkam Lake, the Red Hills reservoir, and Poondi and other wear reservoirs are filling up to their capacities! In the Kanchipuram-Chengalpattu areas, 17 lakes have filled to capacity. Water is being let out from Chemabaramabakkam reservoir this evening as per information from the District Collector. In the first Phase, 100 cft of excess water is to be released. In order to prevent flooding in Adyar, the excess water has already been released!
