For faster allotment of vacant berths in the trains, HHT to be used!!

As a part of Digital India Mission, Southern Railways or SR has distributed hand held terminals or HHT to make it easy for the examiners to check the train tickets of the travellers. By this, the use of paper would be totally avoided.

As many as 857 HHT has been allotted by SR and 246 have been distributed to the Chennai Division of ASR. This was mentioned by Mr. B. Guganesan, chief public relations officer, Southern Railways.

It is learnt that in TN Salem division was given 124 HHTs and Trichy division was given 101 HHTs and Madurai Division 98 HHTs. As many as 140 HHTs and 148 HHTs have been issued to the Palakkad Division as well as Thiruvananthapuram Division respectively. These 2 divisions also belong to the SR is known.

There would be faster allotment of vacant berths in the coaches by these HHTs and there would not be any need for paper charts. Other advantages of using HHTs would be transparency in allotment plus remote location facility and quicker refund process. By means of real-time information, details of availability of vacant berths are made known to the passengers.

On 31st December 2018, HHTs were launched as a pilot project by SR in Chennai –Mysuru Shatabdi and in the Chennai- Coimbatore Shatabdi.
