Posted on: 16/May/2022 9:51:22 AM
The renal parameters have been high and this has been found out in every 5 adults. It is now said that there is a huge need to increase the awareness regarding CKD or chronic kidney disease in the state of Tamil Nadu. A survey regarding this was conducted by the directorate of public health and preventive diseases in the month of February 2022. Preliminary report has been submitted by the department. The state of TN lacks sufficient data on the reasons for CKD. Truth is that the availability of information on CKD has been limited to reported cases in the hospitals.

In 177 different places in TN, a survey was conducted on TN Chronic Kidney Disease Prevalence in adults and it was funded by the National Health Mission of TN. It is learnt that the Institute of Community Medicine or ICM identified 177 clusters by random sampling method based on population size.

To arrive at a sample size of 5310, 30 adult participants were included in the survey from each cluster. Each participant received a questionnaire that was developed jointly by ICM and Institute of Nephrology. Urine samples as well as blood samples of the participants were tested.

It was later brought to light by the findings that as many as 455 adults or 9.55 had elevated serum creatinine levels, 276 persons or 5.8% had albumin levels and 367 persons or 7.7% has RBCs in their urine, Information collected is that overall as many as934 persons or 19.7% had blood in urine or albumin in urine or elevates serum creatinine levels etc.  Point is that early diagnosis is very important for those persons who had BP and diabetes so that these persons could get treatment at the earliest and the progression of CKD could be avoided.

Those persons who have got huge risk of getting CKD would be followed up after 3 months and they would undergo a retesting. It must be taken into account that only if the person shows abnormal values consistently then they would be confirmed having CLD in them. Those who took part in the study have been receiving details about their test results.
