Sensational!! Sudden unprecedented crowds witnessed at bus stands, railway stations, airport etc in Chennai now

Getting an extended weekend is very rare and mostly people would like to make use of this opportunity to go to their native places and be with their families only.
For the last 2 consecutive days, bus stands, railway stations and airports in Chennai were full of people. Many have left Chennai to their native places for the extended weekend from 14th of April till 17th of April. In the last 2 days, 3.5lakhs commuters have travelled to their native places in government as well as in the private buses.
The Koyambedu bus terminus and Madhavaram bus terminus were overcrowded with many commuters. Apart from the 2000 regular bus services, as many as 933 special buses were operated for the sake of the commuters. On Wednesday alone, from Chennai alone, about 1.67lakhs travelled to their native places.
General Secretary, All Omni Bus Owners and Operators Association, Mr. A. Anbalagan spoke about how 712 omni buses were operated from Chennai to various places belonging to the state of Tamil Nadu. As many as 25632 commuters have travelled in these omni buses from Chennai. It is important to note that across TN nearly 55000 commuters travelled by 1525 omni buses.
In Chennai, Central, Egmore and Tambaram are the 3 most important railway stations. From these 3 stations, many travelled to their native places for the extended weekend. Truth is that these 3 stations were overcrowded with many passengers. Special trains were operated in Tambaram-Nagercoil, Tambaram- Ernakulam and Tambaram- Tirunelveli sections for the sake of the public to go to their native places.
In the trains bound for places like Madurai, Coimbatore, Mangalore,Trivandrum etc, every inch of space in the general coaches were occupied. Unprecedented crowd was witnessed at the Chennai airport as the Covid1-9 restrictions have been withdrawn now. A source confirmed that 15000 travelled by domestic and international flights on Wednesday.
It must be noted that the sudden heavy crowds in buses, trains and flights was mainly due to 4 consecutive holidays (Tamil New Year’s Day on 14th April, Good Friday on 15th April, holiday announced by TN govt on 16th April and Sunday on 17th April) for schools and government offices.
It is surprising to mention that after consecutive holidays for the Pongal festival in January, this is the first time the people have got 4 consecutive holidays to enjoy. The transport sector has been revived with the TN government announcing holiday on Saturday 16th April 2022.
