Superb news!! Latest on Chennai Port-Maduravoyal road project!!

The Chennai Port-Maduravoyal Rs 5965 crores road project that was suspended in the year 2012 due to some issues between NHAI and WRD is making superb news now with the decks now being cleared.  

This project now comes under the prime minister’s ‘Gati Shakti’ initiative is known. This was mentioned by Mr. S.P Somasekhar regional officer, NHAI. He then spoke about how a total of 9km of the 20.5km stretch will transverse through Cooum river and MoU would soon be signed between the TN government and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways or MORTH. He concluded that this road project was suspended in 2012 due to a row between NHAI and WRD.

It is now revealed that the piers along the Cooum River would be demolished and new ones would be constructed. Information is that NHAI would seek fresh clearances from the environmental and coastal zone clearances. Point to be noted is that 110 piers would be retained out of 125 piers on the roadside. The elevated corridor would be handling 40000 passenger cars per day. There are fears regarding the entire traffic landing at the Chennai Port. IIT-M would undertake a study on orientation of the internal roads to port and it would not affect the vehicular movement. This was mentioned by Mr. Sunil Paliwal, chairman, Chennai port authority. Mr. S Krishnan, Tamil Nadu industries secretary threw light on the seamless logistic supply chain and commitment. He hinted that the development of the initiatives is being monitored under the state logistics plan.
