The Coronavirus as well as Omicron variant type have been spreading like fire in the recent times in Tamil Nadu.
On Saturday, the fresh Coronavirus cases were 23989 and on Sunday the fresh cases reduced to 23975. Though it was only a marginal reduction, it has brought some hope for the people belonging to TN. There were as many as 8987 fresh cases in Chennai and in 18 other districts of TN. Every third person who has been tested has reported Covid-19 positive in Chennai and the Test Positivity Rate or TPR is 30%.
As many as 80 employees in Vandalur Zoo were affected with Coronavirus infection and the zoo has been closed down. Chengalpet district had 2701fresh cases and Coimbatore district had 1866 fresh cases. The District of Tenkasi on Sunday reported a sharp increase in the fresh cases of 194 compared to the previous day of just 21 fresh cases. Now, there are more than 1.42lakh of active Coronavirus cases. It is worthy to note that 35% of non-oxygen beds have become full in Chennai and the authorities have been trying their best to improve the medical facilities.
According to the health minister Mr. M. Subramanian efforts have been going on to reopen the 2000 bedded Corona care center at Athipet.
