No more issues such as long waiting in queues, overcrowding etc for the residents of Chennai at the vaccination centres in getting Covid-19 vaccine shots!!

Chennai residents could get registered for Covid-19 vaccination slots for the next day and for that GCC had launched a website on Thursday, 24th June 2021.

The GCC website is gcc.vaccine.in and it has 2 buttons namely ‘Book a vaccination slot’ and ‘Manage your slots”. It is now said that by using the former button a person would be able to choose a centre at any of the centres in one of the GCC zones in Chennai. Point is that the slots would be available for the next day. In other words, on Friday a person would be able to book a slot on Saturday. At 6pm on Thursday, some of the slots were booked already because many residents have come to know about this new website launched by GCC.

It is possible to get information about this new website if a person logs in to GCC website chennai corporation.gov.in. Not only websites, persons interested in getting vaccinated could also call the number 044 46122300 and 9499933544 through WhatsApp to book a slot. As per an officer belonging to GCC, this would avoid long queues and over- crowding at the vaccination centres

According to an official statement, it was clear that this was an initiative of moving all citizen related services online. On its websites, GCC displays the allotted number of doses at each of its vaccination centres. Important piece of information is that GCC would allow online booking for just one third of slots and the rest would be for those who directly walk-in to the vaccination centres. Managing the crowd would be possible easily hereafter at the centres in Chennai city.

It has been clearly explained that registration in the website is not the same as CoWIN booking and this booking through the website is just to secure slots at the vaccination centres. At the centre, a separate booking for CoWIN would be done by the officials. Information is that if a person missed the slot booked on the GCC website then he or she has to book it once again. At the vaccination centres, residents need to prove their credentials and for that they have to carry their ID proof approved by the government and mobile phone for OTP verification and registration. This launch of a website to provide online services has caught the attention of many.

Local body minister Mr. K. Nehru and Chennai corporation commissioner Mr. Gagandeep Singh Bedi launched the website for the residents. Chennai Innovation Hub is responsible for creation of this new website. It is known that Chennai Innovation Hub is working under the aegis of Chennai Smart City Ltd.
